Science Misconceptions

This site called Science Myths in K-6 Textbooks and Popular culture is an interesting site to read, though I haven't read through all of it yet. I think a lot of the things I thought were true actually aren't, or are only half-truths. At least their science books don't say that some day man will walk on the moon, like mine did when I was in elementary school... in 1986!

BootCamp

I thought it was some kind of late April Fool's joke when I saw Apple's BootCamp that will dual boot your mac to run Windows or MacOS X. Apple was a few days late for me though, just a few days ago I wiped Mac OS X off my powerbook and put Ubuntu Linux on there. PHP on the Mac kept doing funny things and not showing the same errors like everyone else saw them even after I turned on all errors in the php.ini. My desktop runs Debian Sarge x86 and my laptop runs an alpha release of Ubuntu Dapper PPC which has been very stable so far, Now I only have to get a good printer to get rid of the Windows machine that is my print server and I'll be totally off Windows and MacOS software at home.

LinuxWorld Boston 2006

I went to LinuxWorld in Boston yesterday. This is the first LinuxWorld i've ever been to, having been familiar with MacWorld's, the LinuxWorld expo is fairly small and was very much geared towards big enterprise things and not desktop things. There is a lot of talk about Linux on the desktop, and I think linux can work well as a desktop for many users. Maybe there just isn't enough money in it for the big players to push it. Desktop linux is already available using almost any major distro and home users don't buy many support and maintenance contracts, so there isn't much for large vendors like Redhat or Novell to sell.
